When the Sonnet family built the factory more than 100 years ago, the purpose of selecting the location was to be able to use local materials. Therefore, those factories were all close to the beech forest, which can be said to be deep in the mountains and old forests. The Sonnet factory in Poland is not deep in the mountains, but it is far away from every big city. The first time we went there, we drove from Berlin, and the second time we drove from Warsaw, both of which were hundreds of kilometers away.

The factory of Sonet in Poland is not unfamiliar to a person of a certain age, and even very familiar, because it has a strong state-owned factory atmosphere. When we went to the factory for the first time, we learned that the factory's working time was 4 pm. The second time we went there was during the summer vacation, and the workers all got off work at 2 pm, drove their own cars, and slowly dispersed, leaving a few people dumbfounded. We thought to ourselves, this summer here is much cooler...

Compared to their huge sample room, I like the small exhibition hall at the entrance of their office building the most. It is not large, but it has more than a dozen very old Sonnet chairs, including single chairs, armchairs, benches, tables and cabinets. I told the Polish manager that the old Sonnet chairs in your exhibition hall are much better looking than those in your sample room. The Polish man who had been there when he was in elementary school smiled and said that the chairs in this exhibition hall are all made by hand, and many edges and corners are hand-polished. Nowadays, we use machines to make chairs.

No factory is willing to produce this old Sonnet chair now because it is too handmade. The reason why the No. 14 and No. 18 chairs are popular all over the world is that the craftsmanship is relatively simple.

A revolutionary product that is both elegant and simple

We also ordered a bench, which will arrive in a few months, but it doesn't have so many patterns.

The Sonet chair is a huge family, with dozens of classic styles. Although we did a lot of research, we couldn't remember them all at once. We could only choose a few from the ones that impressed us the most each time we went, and choose from the rest when we went again. In addition to Sonet, the Polish factory also produces some modern chairs, which we didn't like at all. We didn't even look at them each time, but just concentrated on greedily looking at the various classic styles of the Sonet family. According to the current progress, maybe we can go there twice more and understand all the styles of the Sonet factory in Poland.

But I believe that even fewer of our users can tell the difference between so many models. Often, designers come to our company and, seeing the Sonnet chairs we place everywhere for taking photos, they always smile and say, "This is a Sonnet chair, I like it." But when I ask them in detail, they often can't even tell the difference between a 14- and 18-size chair.

The Sonnet chair is a magical piece of furniture. It has a history of about 170 years since its first appearance. But it is still popular all over the world. As mentioned in our previous articles, Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland each have a brand operating Sonnet products. There are three main factories in Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland. Austria is the place where the Sonnet family started. Although there is a brand, there is no factory. That brand only provides designs and then finds factories to produce them.

Why has Sonnet been popular for more than a hundred years, especially during this period of ups and downs, but it is still loved by the world? I think it is closely related to the beautiful shape and low cost. For more than a year, every time we receive a few containers of Sonnet chairs, they will be sold out in a short time, and it is all because of these two reasons. Although we do sell it very cheaply (especially in China, there are many merchants selling Czech TON Sonnet, which is even more so when compared), the root cause is still there. This chair was not a product with particularly complex craftsmanship or high cost when it was first designed. The founder of Sonnet is a business genius like the founder of IKEA. He invented flatbed transportation more than 100 years ago. By reducing costs and facilitating transportation, this chair has become the most sold chair in human history. What's more rare is that his chairs, although cheap, are so sturdy, and each one has a simple classical beauty.

Chair No. 14 and No. 18 are the two most famous chairs in the Sonnet chair family, but this does not mean that they are the best looking. In fact, judging from the numbering, the earliest ones are more classical and graceful. From today's perspective, they are more beautiful than the two simplest chairs No. 14 and No. 18.

Let's take a look at a poster from more than 100 years ago. Here are the four earliest chairs of Thornet, from No. 1 to No. 4. At that time, each number had three chairs, a single chair, an armchair, and a bench.

More than 100 years later, of these four chairs, No. 2 and No. 3 are basically no longer produced by any factory. No. 1 can be found occasionally, but it is also extremely rare. No. 4 is produced in the Sonnet factory in Poland, and we will introduce it in due course.

2. The most famous are the 14 and 18 chairs and the 9 armchair

I believe that many users of Jialuo Life know the difference between size 14 and size 18. And, strangely, size 14 is the most sold all over the world, but here, everyone likes size 18 the most. I don't know if this is related to people's aesthetics, or if everyone thinks that the backrest of size 18 may be more comfortable to sit on. We have explained this several times. In terms of comfort, there is no difference between size 14 and size 18, otherwise it would be impossible for size 14 to sell so much abroad.

In addition to these two chairs, the most famous one in the world is the armchair No. 9. The armchair occupies a slightly larger area and can be used as the main seat at the dining table or as a desk chair. It is not as flexible as the 14 and 18 armchairs, but it can also meet the specific needs of many people. For example, famous chairs with similar sizes to the armchair No. 9 include the Y chair and even the Kennedy chair. However, in terms of price, the armchair No. 9 is cheaper than the Kennedy chair made of black walnut or the Y chair made of oak. In addition, it is much lighter and of equally reliable quality.

These three chairs have different types of seats, such as wooden and rattan. We have introduced the No. 9 armchair and the soft-covered version, which we have introduced one after another. In particular, the rattan woven ones are increasingly being promoted as our main products. However, perhaps because the order volume of our rattan seats is large, there are only a few workers in the Polish factory who can weave them, and each order cycle is particularly long. The goods that came this time are the first products that the Polish factory has changed to using machine-woven rattan seats. Many users previously complained that the hand-woven rattan seats were rough and had burrs. Now this problem has been completely solved, but I don’t know whether this is a good thing or a bad thing. In fact, if you can get through the initial running-in period of the rattan seat, it will become smoother and smoother to use in the future, but the durability of the machine-woven seat may not be as long-lasting as the hand-woven one.

3. The No. 10 chair is very interesting

The legs of the Sonnet chairs generally do not change much, and the main identification model is the backrest. Among these changes in the backrest, there is a chair that we think is particularly tasteful. During our recent trip to Poland, we ordered a lot of them.

This model is called differently in factories in Germany, Czech Republic and Poland. Some call it Chair No. 10, and some call it Chair No. 11. We looked through posters from the early years and checked a lot of information, but we couldn't find any origin of the design of this chair. However, it doesn't prevent us from appreciating or using it with our own cultural identity.

4. Classical No. 16 and No. 31

Our understanding of Sonnet has also gradually deepened over time. When we first launched Sonnet chairs, several No. 16 chairs were sold out in an instant. We didn’t quite understand at the time, thinking that there was a No. 18 chair, so why did they choose No. 16? Now I gradually understand that many people may still like the classical flavor of No. 16 and No. 31, with complex and soft curves. It is rare to encounter classical shapes from Europe in this era. Unlike No. 123 chairs, which are not easy to find, No. 16 and No. 31 chairs are still produced by those Sonnet factories and are not difficult to order.

5. Internet celebrity chair No. 811

The chairs listed above are basically small series, and they all have a history of at least 150 years. But in the long history of Sonnet, there are innovations, and not just this kind of classical style. For example, the Sonnet chair designed in 1925 has a modern and light luxury flavor. It is not so classical, nor so modern, but it has the advantages of both styles.

This is the 811 chair that has been very popular all over the world in recent years. Unlike the mainstream honey color of Sonnet, people choose black for the 811 chair, with a beige rattan seat and backrest, which is particularly suitable for light luxury decoration style. Of course, the workmanship of this chair is also more complicated, and the price is relatively expensive. During our recent trip to Poland, we also followed the fashion and mainly ordered this single chair and armchair. According to the production rhythm of the Poles, it is expected to arrive at Shanghai Port around the Spring Festival in 2020. Although the price will be much more expensive than No. 14 and No. 18, our price must be the lowest, and it will be much lower than the current domestic price. Friends who need it can wait for a few months and don't rush to buy it.

6. Rounded trapezoidal Sonet

Sonnet's famous chair series, except for the 811 series, all have round seats. But there is another seat shape that was once very popular. The design of the 811 chair obviously also borrowed from this seat shape, which is the rounded trapezoidal seat series.

This type of chair uses more materials and has a heavier structure, but it is more solid. I remember seeing this type of chair in the 1980s, especially the swivel chair, which is very suitable for people who need to work at a desk for a long time.

There are many models of this rounded trapezoidal Sonnet chair, the famous ones include No. 165, No. 8223, No. 0542 and No. 9451, etc.

7. Bench

As mentioned before, each model of Sonnet chair basically has three shapes: a single chair, an armchair, and a bench. The width of the bench is equivalent to a small three-person sofa, and because of its size, it can accommodate more patterns, and the benches are often very beautiful.

This bench can be used as a small sofa, especially as a shoe-changing bench in the hallway. However, perhaps due to the complicated workmanship or the low demand, many very beautiful benches are no longer produced by these foreign Sonat factories. If they are produced, they are only the simpler styles of size 14 and 18, which are relatively easy to work with.

8. Rocking Chair

The rocking chair is a separate branch of the Sonnet chair. Because the shape and pattern are too complex, it can no longer be classified into the same category as any model.

Historically, there have been many models of Sonnet rocking chairs, but very few are still in production today. At least in the Sonnet factory in Poland, only the model of Sonnet rocking chair that we are selling is still being made.
