1. About ARTDECO
1. Art Deco is a design style and also a modern art movement that has not yet ended.
Originated from the International Exposition of Modern Industrial Decorative Arts held in Paris, France in 1925, it was popular in the 1920s and 1930s, and was mainly reflected in luxurious products and artworks. After it was introduced to the United States in the late 1920s , it was widely used in large-scale architectural design and interior design because it was in line with the spirit of the times and adapted to its heyday . It also penetrated into the fields of automobile design, industrial product design, stage design, etc. , and had a huge impact. The Art Deco movement can be said to be an exploration of the entire design industry, combining the mechanical design aesthetics that emerged from industrial culture, integrating the local elements of various countries in a unified form of expression, and conforming to the diversified characteristics of postmodernism.
2. Art Deco decoration has the following main features:
·Radiating sunlight and fountain forms: symbolize the dawn of a new era.
The lines of the skyscraper's receding silhouette: a symbol of the 20th century.
A symbol of speed, power and flight: new developments in transportation.
Geometric shapes: symbolize that machinery and technology solve our problems.
The figure of the new woman: reveals that women have won the freedom and rights in society.
· Breaking the conventional form: inspired by jazz, short skirts and short hair, shocking dance, etc.
·Forms of ancient cultures: imagination of ancient civilizations such as Egypt and Mesoamerica.
Bright contrasting colors.
2. ARTDECO
Art Deco is both familiar and unfamiliar to people. As early as the 1930s , there were already a large number of Art Deco -style buildings and various daily necessities in Shanghai, Tianjin and Qingdao. Old-fashioned foreign furniture, various electrical appliances, daily utensils, etc. all revealed strong Art Deco style characteristics. The curly patterns symbolizing vitality, the pyramid-shaped stepped composition, and the radial lines are all typical Art Deco modeling languages.
Today, Art Deco is showing its face again . The creative freedom brought by its design makes the starting point of this style of work higher than any other popular design style in the past. Moreover, Art Deco's tolerance of multiculturalism is quite consistent with today's globalized social environment. People's interest in Art Deco is actually the joy that their love for multiple life interests can finally be realized at the same time.
3. ARTDECO ’s manifestation in the project
1. The embodiment of Art Deco design style in each specific space
■Reflection in landscape axis
Because the building highlights the specialization of the service population, the central axis space treatment method is used to express the building's luxurious and luxurious psychological space axis. After the psychological axis is formed, the spiritual territory of the project is grasped, and the axis is treated in an artistic way to drive the regional landscape into a complete system. The axis is used to connect the main landscape with the secondary landscape, showing a sense of spatial rhythm sequence. Art Deco design is a combination of continuous straight lines and decorative nodes, using points, lines, and surfaces to control the project style.
■Reflection in the square
The squares in different areas have the characteristics of strengthening the axis, highlighting the essence of Art Deco's service to the rich and powerful. The squares serve as the nodes and ends of the axis, making the axis complete. The decorative structures, paving and decorative nodes of Art Deco can be fully displayed in the squares , connecting the linear style characteristics of the axis. The entire landscape framework is formed by the interweaving of points, lines and surfaces.
■Reflection in the activity space between buildings
There are areas for dynamic and static activities between the buildings. Luxurious decoration and the smooth straight Art Deco style are used to express the rhythm of the venue. The design ensures that the landscape between each building is uniform and expresses the characteristics of each building.
■Reflection in waterscape
The palace waterscape introduced to Europe from Islam has a strong symbolic meaning. The courtyard is divided by pools and canals. The water flows slowly and makes a slight sound, which represents the convergence of the four rivers of "water, milk, wine and honey", symbolizing auspiciousness, good luck and abundance. This kind of palace waterscape can be used in the Art Deco design style to reflect the elegant and exquisite central axis water body.
2. Art Deco characteristics reflected in the enclosed space
Enclosed space is a detail that allows the Art Deco style to inherit classicism. The enclosed space has a strong reminder effect on the venue, and the elegant and dignified details are reflected in the grasp of each space.
The site and nodes are enclosed by hedges. The enclosure of plants is relatively relaxed, implicitly dividing the virtual space in the site.
The enclosure of the gallery is a more solid space enclosure, which gives participants a strong sense of belonging and is an inclusive space suitable for people.
The enclosure of the mountain is the most substantial landscape enclosure. It physically divides the site, strengthens the functional areas, and at the same time seeks a sense of psychological stability for people from the spatial enclosure.
3. The embodiment of Art Deco style in greening design
Vegetables, forests and lawns are references to the luxurious and majestic English classical gardens.
The neatly arranged tree array reflects the modern, straight and orderly characteristics of the Art Deco style.
Boundary isolation forest belts, the Art Deco style can draw on the heavy green landscape background in traditional gardens, and use cypress and arbors with good masking properties as the background for the bright colors of the Art Deco style in the foreground.
4. The combination of ARTDECO style landscape design and architecture and its expression
■Combination of architectural pieces and architecture
The architectural sketches and gates are designed based on the Art Deco style principles, with the use of materials and detail treatment being as unified as possible, and the entire design scheme presents a complete system.
■The corresponding relationship between pavement texture, structure and architecture
This project strongly highlights the axis. In addition to its spatial manifestation, the paving dividing lines and structures and buildings should have a strict correspondence in the details, implying the relationship between the axis and the structures and buildings from many aspects.
■ Strengthening of building entrances
The combination of architecture and landscape is more important in boundary treatment. The building entrances and exits are made of low landscape walls and flower pots with combined materials. This can strengthen the function of the entrance. The treatment of details plays a finishing touch in the space.
Designing an Art Deco -style landscape is not only about reproducing the form of the structure, but more importantly, it is about grasping the essence of Art Deco , finding the characteristics and significance of Art Deco reproducing in the landscape in the spiritual level and spatial relationship , and guiding the participants to enter the landscape and the poetic and picturesque mountains and rivers.
Urban people's nostalgia has created the popularity and fashion of Art Deco in today's society. We do not deny this explanation, but fashion is not only due to nostalgia, but also the embodiment of aesthetic values and the inheritance and development of traditional culture. Simple copying and nostalgia of classics are not good designs. The vitality of fashion lies in finding the essence and quality from classics, and inheritance and innovation based on the understanding of modern aesthetics.
