Pest and disease control in rose cultivation

1. Rose aphids,

mainly the rose tube aphid and peach aphid, suck the sap from the tender organs of the plant, damaging young stems, leaves, and buds, severely affecting plant growth and flowering.

Control method: Spray promptly with a 2000-fold dilution of 10% imidacloprid wettable powder.

2. Rose powdery mildew

affects young leaves, causing a white powdery substance to appear on both sides. Early symptoms are not obvious; 3-5 days after the powdery layer appears, the leaves become water-soaked, gradually losing their green color and turning yellow. Severe damage leads to leaf drop.

Control methods:

① Strengthen management and improve the growing environment. Prune the plant in early spring, removing dead branches and stems to improve ventilation and light penetration. In the early stages of the disease, promptly prune diseased branches, buds, and leaves and destroy them to reduce the source of infection.

② Spray with a 600-fold dilution of 75% chlorothalonil wettable powder before leaf expansion to kill overwintering pathogens and prevent disease.

③ In the early stages of the disease, you can use 10% Topsin at 800 times dilution, 400g/L Fuxing at 3500 times dilution, 15% Triadimefon wettable powder at 1000 times dilution, 20% Triadimefon EC at 1500 times dilution, or 75% Chlorothalonil wettable powder at 600 times dilution, etc., spraying once every 7-10 days, for 2-3 consecutive sprays. Spraying should be thorough and comprehensive, protecting tender parts. Increase the frequency of spraying during the peak growth period of new shoots and the rainy season.

3. Rose black spot disease

mainly affects leaves, petioles, and young shoots. When the disease first appears on the leaves, small purplish-brown to brown spots appear on the upper surface, which enlarge into round or irregular dark brown lesions. You can spray with fungicides such as Carbendazim, Thiophanate-methyl, or Daconazole. (Return to the homepage of Rose Cultivation Methods and Precautions)
