Old Gardener: This is how you should fertilize camellia, it will be different in all seasons!

Camellia has always been considered an elegant perennial woody ornamental flower, and is ranked eighth among the "Top Ten Famous Flowers". It has rich and eye-catching colors, a long flowering period, and a beautiful plant shape. Tea trees are evergreen all year round and are deeply loved by people all over the world.

So many flower gardeners grow camellia.

But if you want the flowers to grow well, fertilizer is indispensable. But fertilization cannot be done blindly, it must be reasonable. Some flower friends in the background asked what fertilizer is best for camellia? How to apply it?

In fact, camellia has different requirements for fertilizer at different stages, so it is best to give different fertilizers at different stages, and apply different fertilizers according to the season.

Please see below for details:

First, nitrogen fertilizer promotes spring shoots

Camellia usually starts to shade at around 18 degrees Celsius. At this time, nitrogen fertilizer should be applied every 10 days until the spring shoots begin to lignify.

——If conditions permit, a mixture of 1000 times potassium dihydrogen phosphate, 1% urea and 300 times rice vinegar can also be used for foliar spraying. After multiple root and leaf spraying, the spring shoots will grow luxuriantly, the leaves can stretch to their maximum, and the branches can accumulate rich nutrients, creating good conditions for flower bud differentiation.

Second, apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to promote flower bud differentiation and form flower buds

After the spring shoots of camellia become lignified, there is a short semi-dormant period. At this time, the vegetative growth stage of camellia turns to the reproductive stage, and flower buds begin to differentiate.

To increase the germination rate of camellia, more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied and less nitrogen fertilizers should be applied. If the camellia is mainly used for plant growth, nitrogen fertilizers can still be applied but no phosphorus fertilizers are applied.

Spraying 1000 times potassium dihydrogen phosphate, a small amount of borax and rice vinegar on the leaves every 10 days or so can not only control the elongation of camellia branches, but also promote and shorten the time of flower bud differentiation, which is beneficial to the formation of flower buds.

Third, it is not advisable to apply fertilizer in midsummer, let alone concentrated fertilizer.

In the hot summer, the growth of camellia is slow or semi-stopped. At this time, it is not suitable to apply fertilizer, especially concentrated fertilizer.

If the soil is poor, you can apply a small amount of liquid fertilizer in conjunction with watering to improve the soil quality.

Fourth, the rational application of phosphorus and potassium mixed fertilizer in autumn

Autumn is a time when the weather is clear and cool, and it is the period when tea trees accumulate nutrients.

In order to safely overwinter, you can apply a mixture of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers every half month, combined with foliar spraying, to promote plant health and improve the cold resistance of camellia.

Fifth, it is advisable to apply dilute phosphorus and potassium liquid fertilizer in winter

Camellia enters a semi-dormant period in winter. Camellia is moved indoors or into cellars. Its vegetative growth has entered a dormant period and it does not need too much fertilizer, but its growth does not completely stop.

During the flowering or pre-flowering season, dilute liquid phosphorus and potassium fertilizer should be applied in combination with watering.

In short, only by fertilizing camellia according to the above method can the camellia grow better and better. Have you flower lovers learned it?
