No matter how frugal you are, don't buy these eight types of beds. This is not nonsense, but a summary of experience.

The bed is a necessity in home life and is also the most frequently used item. About one-third of our time is spent in bed every day. The quality of our sleep depends entirely on the quality of the bed and mattress.

So, let’s discuss beds today and see which beds should not be bought.

1. Don’t buy a gas-pressure low-bed

There are only two purposes for buying a bed with a box body. One is for rest and the other is for storage. No matter how much you say, it will be useless and we have to return to its practicality.

There are actually two types of gas-pressure rod beds, high-box beds and low-box beds. The storage space of a high-box bed is about 30 cm high, while the internal storage space of a low-box bed is about 18 cm. If we subtract the 10 cm height occupied by the gas-pressure rod, the actual use height of a high-box bed is about 20 cm, while the actual use height of a low-box bed is 8 cm to 10 cm. The storage space is limited and there is basically no storage function, which is particularly useless. Therefore, it is not recommended to buy a low-box bed or a bed with an internal storage space of less than 20 cm.

2. Don’t buy a bedside with soft or hard padding

Here, we are not talking about buying soft-covered or hard-covered bedside tables, which refers to bedside tables covered with low-end artificial leather, improperly stored leather, or polyester fiber, not genuine leather or fabric bedside tables. Why are we not recommending you to buy them? The main reason is that they are not practical, durable, and have a low cost-effectiveness.

Polyester fiber soft bags have poor moisture absorption, carry static electricity, are easily dusty, and are particularly afraid of cigarette ash and sparks. Once they come into contact with them, they will leave a hole, affecting the appearance and comfort. Leather soft bags require regular maintenance. If they are exposed to moisture or mold, the leather will lose its toughness and become brittle, causing it to peel or crack.

Even genuine leather soft and hard cases require regular maintenance, otherwise the leather will deteriorate and peel off over time, it just takes longer than artificial leather.

3. Don’t buy MDF or particle board beds

Whether it is MDF or particleboard, it is essentially made of materials glued together and pressed into shape, and then carved, polished, and painted. The advantages are that it is strong, easy to shape, and cheap. The disadvantage is that a large amount of glue is added during the production process, which will emit formaldehyde, which is harmful to the human body. Secondly, MDF and particleboard are afraid of water and moisture. They will swell and mold when they come into contact with water. When the board deteriorates, it will breed bacteria and mold, which is not good for physical and mental health.

Medium-density fiberboard is not exclusive to low-end products. Even some well-known brands use medium-density fiberboard for the head and foot of their beds. Be sure to keep your eyes open when buying to avoid being deceived.

4. Don’t buy racks with too large spacing

Most beds on the market now have slat frames with wide or narrow spacing. In terms of frame type, there are two-row slat frames, three-row slat frames, and reinforced slat frames. In terms of quality, two-row slat frames are the worst, and reinforced slat frames are the best. In terms of the size of the wood strips, there are three types: 5 cm, 7 cm, and 10 cm. In terms of the number of wood strips, there are 12 rows, 13 rows, and 15 rows. The reinforced rows with 15 rows or more are of the best quality.

On the surface, it seems like just a few numbers, but in fact, there is a lot of knowledge behind it. Many people don’t know much about it and blindly buy a bed home, only to find out when they get the mattress that it doesn’t match the rib frame and cannot be used.

For example, latex mattresses, spring mattresses, and coir mattresses all have clear requirements for the spacing of rib frames. If the thickness of a latex mattress is less than 15 cm, there should be no gaps in the rib frames. If the thickness is more than 15 cm, the spacing of the rib frames should not be greater than 5 cm. The requirement for the rib frames of a spring mattress is within 5 cm. (Generally, the spacing of springs in a spring mattress is between 3 cm and 7 cm. If the spacing of the rib frames is greater than 5 cm, the springs will lose their support points and may be damaged. One damaged rib frame will cause a pit.) Coir mattresses have the lowest requirements, and spacing of 5 cm to 10 cm can be used.

Therefore, it is recommended that when choosing a slat frame, the closer the spacing, the better the support effect on the mattress. If you are not sure, you can first consult your favorite mattress merchant to understand the requirements of the slat frame of the mattress you need, and you will not go wrong if you buy it according to your needs.

5. Not for decoration style, do not buy American-style beds.

The American bed mentioned here is the one with too many shapes and carvings, not the simple-shaped solid wood American bed.

Why we don't recommend you to buy it is mainly due to the following three considerations. First, most American-style beds with too many shapes are made of medium-density fiberboard at the head and foot of the bed, which will swell when exposed to water. Second, this kind of carved head and foot of the bed has too many shapes, and there are many dead corners for hygiene, which is difficult to maintain. Third, this type of bed is designed with soft bags and carvings. Regardless of whether the soft bag surface is made of genuine leather or artificial leather, it needs regular maintenance. Over time, the leather's toughness decreases and the texture becomes brittle, and it will peel off.

6. Don’t buy invisible beds

Generally, invisible beds are designed for small-sized bedrooms or functional rooms. They can be pulled down when in use and pushed up when not in use. They do not take up space and do not affect the appearance.

Have you ever thought that the invisible bed, which seems to be perfectly designed, is actually a bit useless. First, it needs to be pulled down every time it is used, and it is quite time-consuming and laborious to clean it, make the bed, and then recycle and organize it. Second, the invisible bed has high requirements for hardware accessories, and the price is not cheap.

Let's not talk about other things. Just talking about the process of pulling down the bed, tidying it up, and putting it up, how many people can stick to it? It's easy for a day or two, but it's difficult for a month or half a year. Therefore, it is recommended that you don't install an invisible bed unless you have special needs.

7. Don’t buy an iron bed

Generally, families who buy wrought iron beds are those with European or American decoration styles. They pursue unique individuality and are attracted by its elegance, firmness and rich colors.

Although wrought iron beds have distinct characteristics and are full of artistic flavor, it is still not recommended that you buy them.

Why do I say so? It is mainly based on the following four considerations. First, if the iron bed is not installed properly, there will be noise when turning over during sleep, which will affect sleep. Second, the iron bed is made of metal. Whether it is touched or given the first impression, it is cold and has no temperature. Third, the iron bed is afraid of bumps. Once the paint peels off, it is not easy to repair. No matter how you repair it, there will be color difference, and the scars are not good-looking. Fourth, the iron bed has too many shapes and styles, which is not conducive to hygiene.

8. Don’t buy a simple air mattress

I don't recommend using a simple air mattress. Why? The reason is that it has poor air permeability and heavy moisture, and sleeping on it is easy to get rheumatism; secondly, the air mattress has no support points, and long-term use can easily cause waist pain; finally, the mattress is small and easy to leak, especially when you are outdoors, you are most afraid of contact with sharp objects, which can easily scratch you, and there is no condition to repair it in the wild.

Finally, if an air mattress is used for a long time, there will be some accumulated water in it, which will become a paradise for bacteria and mold over time, which is harmful to the human body.
