Master these 5 tips for sowing flowers in spring to increase your germination rate by N times

If you want your balcony or yard to be like a garden every year, you must know how to sow and propagate by yourself, especially for some novice flower growers. What are the techniques for sowing? Why do the seedlings grown by many friends sow easily fall over or wilt?

5 tips for seed propagation:

1. Seed preparation and disinfection

Be sure to make adequate preparations before sowing, and disinfect the flower pots and soil before use.

Prepare fresh seeds (the longer the seeds are stored, the lower the germination rate), sterilized seedling pots and soil, and the soil you dig yourself should be watered with carbendazim solution before using it for sowing.

2. Planting seeds in pots

Prepare a special seedling pot, disinfect the soil before use, and fill the seedling pot 80% full with soil.

3. Moist soil

Moisten the soil thoroughly and water generously, allowing any excess water to run off the bottom of the pot.

4. Seed sowing:
Most seeds are processed by sowing the seeds (the seeds can be soaked in clean water for 8 to 12 hours before germination, which is conducive to germination), covering them with a layer of soil until the seeds are no longer visible, and using a watering can or sprinkler to wet the newly covered soil.

Most seeds can be directly sprinkled with soil and watered, but be careful not to use large amounts of water, otherwise the seeds will easily be dispersed.

5. Treatment of light-loving seeds

(If the temperature and humidity are not high enough, cover the plant with a hood, and the top can be opened for ventilation)

When scattering tiny seeds, there is no need to cover with soil or water; when the weather is stable and cool (such as November and December), you can cover the surface of the pot with plastic wrap or a transparent cover. If you sow when the temperature is higher, it is not suitable to add plastic wrap or cover, because the temperature of the pot surface will be higher after covering, which will affect the germination rate.

6. After sowing,
place it in a bright but not direct sunlight place and wait for germination.

Buy fresh and vigorous seeds. Pay attention to the date when buying seeds (unsown seeds should be kept in a dry and cool place). Keeping them for too long will affect the germination rate of the seeds.

Use clean media such as peat soil, potting soil, pearl stone, vermiculite or clean sandy soil for sowing.

When sowing herbaceous flowers, it is generally customary to use a mixture of planting soil: perlite: vermiculite = 1:1:1.
Keep the medium moist after sowing, and remember not to allow water to accumulate in the potting soil.

No fertilizer is needed when sowing. Fertilizer should be applied when the seedlings grow small leaves. After the seeds germinate, they should be given sufficient light so that the seedlings are strong and vigorous to avoid lodging.
