Keep your eyes peeled: In autumn and winter, mahogany furniture needs skin care and should not be wiped with a damp cloth.

Just as skin needs care and cars need maintenance, rosewood furniture also requires care. Exquisite and refined rosewood furniture combines practicality, aesthetics, and collectible value. With proper maintenance, it can remain as good as new over time, extending its lifespan and increasing its collectible value. Reporters have learned that with the arrival of autumn and winter, the dry air poses a threat of cracking to rosewood furniture. Under these circumstances, rosewood furniture needs even more "skin care."

Dry weather can easily cause mahogany to crack.

"Autumn and winter are relatively dry seasons, so it's necessary to maintain rosewood furniture," said Chen Wenqing, General Manager of the Marketing Department of Zhuangyuanfang. According to industry insiders, rosewood furniture requires different maintenance in each season, but protecting it from dryness is undoubtedly the key focus in autumn and winter.

It is understood that dryness is the main cause of cracking in rosewood furniture. Besides dry air, direct sunlight should also be avoided. Sunlight is one of the enemies of rosewood furniture. Dry air combined with prolonged sun exposure easily causes the wood's moisture to evaporate, leading to cracks.

"Besides avoiding direct sunlight, try not to open windows too wide in winter," explains Ms. Wu, a home furnishing consultant at Hongguxuan. She adds that using a humidifier can help prevent cracking. However, it's important to note that rosewood needs to be protected from both dryness and moisture; a balance must be maintained between preventing cracking and humidification. Experts point out that the ideal humidity level for rosewood furniture is around 40%.

Rosewood furniture is not suitable for wiping with a damp cloth.

Ms. Wu pointed out that if consumers do not maintain the rosewood properly and it cracks, there is no need to worry too much. Generally speaking, the spring climate is humid, and some cracks will gradually shrink. At this time, with some professional repairs, the purpose of repair can be achieved.

In autumn and winter, besides avoiding drafts and direct sunlight, there are certain techniques for daily maintenance. For example, when wiping, it's recommended to use a soft, dry cloth to sweep away dust to prevent accumulation. However, avoid using a damp cloth, as moisture can seep into the wood and cause it to crack.

In addition, applying oil or wax appropriately is also one way to maintain the luster of rosewood. "However, generally speaking, the air is drier in the north, so waxing is more emphasized; while it is used relatively less in the south. But it is undeniable that applying oil or waxing has a very good effect on the maintenance of rosewood furniture," Ms. Wu pointed out.

It is understood that because rosewood furniture is quite expensive, merchants usually point out key maintenance points to consumers when they make a purchase. During interviews, reporters also learned that many consumers frequently call rosewood merchants to inquire about maintenance knowledge.
