For large furniture such as beds, sofas, dining tables and chairs, the corresponding sizes are usually reserved during the decoration stage. For example, the conventional sizes of beds are 1.2m×2m, 1.5m×2m, 1.8m×2m, etc. These sizes are just general terms. If you have no decoration experience, you may fail when buying a bed! 1. If I buy a 2-meter bed, does it mean it is 2 meters long?
Generally speaking, when we say a "1.8m×2m" bed, we are referring to the size of the mattress inside the bed, which is relative to the use. The bed frame itself and the headrest have a certain size and thickness. If these are taken into account, the actual size of a "1.8m×2m" bed may be "1.9m×2.2m"!

2. What are the effects of a larger bed size?
When buying a bed, for example, a 1.8m×2m bed, the actual length will basically exceed 1.8m×2m . If you don’t know this before decorating and don’t pay attention when buying the bed, you may end up with a bad result.

①Block the switch socket

For example, for a 1.8-meter leather bed, the two sides of the bed edge together will be about 10 cm, so the actual width of the bed is 1.9 meters. If the switches and sockets on both sides of the bed are just 1.8 meters apart, then the leather bed may block the switches and sockets!

②Affect channel size

For example, if you have a 2-meter-long bed, you should reserve 2 meters of space during the decoration, leaving a 60cm passage between the end of the bed and the wall. Then you buy a leather bed. After you move the bed home and install it, you will find that there is only 30cm of space left in the aisle, which is completely impassable!

If the end of the bed happens to be a wardrobe or a door, then the longer bed will affect the opening and closing of the door and cabinet door. In this case, you will have to throw away the newly bought bed and buy a smaller bed!

3. Bed back size (length)
If the length of the bed includes the backrest and the bedside, the actual length of a 2-meter bed will be 2.1-2.3 meters. The backrest sizes of beds made of different materials are different.

①The actual length of the solid wood bed

The backrest thickness of a solid wood bed can be 5cm-15cm depending on the style. For example, for the simplest flat backrest, the thickness is controlled within the thickness range of the bed foot frame, so a 5cm thick backrest can be achieved. Taking into account the exposed length of the foot frame at the end of the bed, the actual length of the bed should be around 2080mm.

If you want to lean on a solid wooden bed to be more comfortable, the backrest will have to be tilted, and the thickness of the entire backrest may have to be increased to about 15cm. The actual length of the bed will have to be around 2150mm.

②The actual length of the leather (fabric) bed

For a leather or fabric bed, if the backrest is to be soft and comfortable, it is necessary to add thick latex or sponge, add a wooden frame inside, and make a tilted backrest. Generally, the actual length is about 2.2-2.3 meters! Therefore, if you plan to buy a leather bed, you must make sure that the space is large enough, otherwise it will cause congestion in the aisle.

4. Bed edge size (width)
In addition to the thickness of the backrest, a bed edge will be added on both sides of the bed to prevent the mattress from sliding away (the mattress is stuck in it), and the frame of the bed also has a certain thickness, and the size and thickness of different materials are also different.

①The actual width of the solid wood bed

The width of a solid wood bed is generally 2-3cm on both sides of the bed edge, and the total width of both sides is 4-6cm. Therefore, the actual width of a 1.8m bed is about 1.84-1.86m. This 4-6cm size generally has little impact on the space.

②The actual width of the leather (fabric) bed

The size of a leather bed edge is relatively large. With a solid wood frame and a soft sponge layer, the thickness of a single-layer bed edge is 5-8cm, and the total thickness of both sides is 10-16cm. So for a 1.8-meter bed, the actual width of the bed is 1.9-1.96 meters.

5. What should I do if only 2 meters are reserved?
As for the length of the bed, if only 2 meters of length are reserved, it is recommended to choose a customized bed frame or tatami. Such a bed does not have a backrest and the actual length can be precisely controlled.

The bed is the piece of furniture that occupies the largest area in the bedroom, so we must keep in mind its actual size to avoid insufficient space reserved during decoration, which will affect daily life later.
