A good sofa will last for years without any problems, but a low-quality sofa will show its true colors after just a few months!

If you want your sofa to last, you must choose carefully when buying it . I have changed 2 sets of sofas at home, and I have summarized the "8 Don'ts" for sofas. Today I share them with you for reference only.

1. Don’t choose a full down sofa

This type of sofa is soft and comfortable to sit on, but it collapses easily, and its resilience and support are not very good. Sitting on it for a long time will put a burden on the cervical spine.

Recommendation : Choose high-density rebound sponge (45D) to fill the sofa, which has good rebound and is not easy to collapse.

Try to avoid cotton.

2. Don’t choose low-quality technology fabric sofas

The material is special, easy to care for, and the appearance is comparable to that of a leather sofa, but tech fabric sofas have their pros and cons.

High-quality tech fabric sofas are durable and expensive; low-quality tech fabric sofas are made of fabric + surface paint, which are not wear-resistant and easily turn yellow and fall apart.

Suggestion: If you have no purchasing experience, don’t buy a technological fabric sofa easily. Traditional fabric sofas are better to use .

3. Don’t choose an independent bandage sofa

The most important factor in determining whether a sofa has good support is the bottom design. The most common styles are independent springs and serpentine springs + bandages . Both designs of sofas have good support and will not collapse after sitting for a long time.

Suggestion: Never choose a sofa with only serpentine springs or only bandages, as the supporting capacity is very poor and the sofa is not comfortable to sit on.

4. Don’t choose a sofa with a frame made of wood and board

The frame is equivalent to the skeleton of the sofa, and it must be strong enough. The best frame material is solid wood , which has strong stability and long service life; the worst is the combination of board and wood, miscellaneous wood and density board frame, which has poor nail holding force, is easy to deform, and even causes pollution.

Suggestion: When buying a sofa, ask the merchant about the material of the internal frame. If possible, you can remove the wrapped fabric and look directly at the inner frame of the sofa. Seeing is believing so that you won’t be cheated!

5. Don’t choose a sofa with a non-woven backing

Non-woven fabrics have poor corrosion resistance and will turn into powder and fall off after long-term use, affecting the use of the sofa.

Suggestion: Use umbrella cloth as the back cover, which is thin and breathable, and not easy to fall off or powder. If you have enough budget, you can choose suit cloth as the back cover, which is more solid.

6. Don’t choose an integrated sofa

The one-piece sofa looks good but has low flexibility and is difficult to transport. Especially if you live in a high-rise building, you need to use a crane to transport it, which not only increases the cost, but also avoids unnecessary losses (such as bumping into windows, walls, etc.).

Recommendation : For ordinary families, segmented modular sofas are easy to move and maintain, and have a high cost-effectiveness.

7. Don’t choose a floor-standing sofa

Floor-standing sofas may look high-end, but in fact the bottom will form a sanitary dead corner with the ground. Once you move in, you will know how tiring cleaning is!

Recommendation: Choose a high-legged sofa, about 10-15 cm off the ground, to facilitate the entry and exit of cleaning tools and make cleaning easier.

8. Don’t choose a lazy sofa

This kind of sofa is only suitable for daily display, and it is not very comfortable to sit on.

Suggestion: Traditional straight-row sofas and L-shaped sofas are still the most suitable styles for home use. Don’t be impulsive and follow the trend to buy flashy sofas!
