Four common magic tricks revealed – you'll finally know their secrets!

A little white rabbit appears out of the hat.

This magic trick may seem puzzling, but the secret is actually quite easy to understand. The rabbit doesn't appear out of thin air, of course. Initially, the magician hides the rabbit inside a mechanism under a table, concealing it with a tablecloth. The loose tablecloth makes it impossible for the audience to perceive its presence. When the magician shows the audience an empty hat, we believe there are no items or mechanisms inside. After fooling the audience, the magician covers the mechanism's entrance with the hat, allowing the rabbit to emerge and be pulled back into the hat. When the confident magician opens the hat, we see the rabbit inside.

Bend the spoon with your mind

Do you think the end of the spoon you see is the real end of the spoon? Magicians don't show you the whole spoon, so they leave the front half out but hide the back half in their hand. When they start to bend the spoon, they simply use their palm to push out another spoon handle that they have prepared beforehand between their thumb and forefinger.

Levitation

This magic trick is all about the viewing angle. Did you notice that the magician's position overlapped with the assistant's skirt? The beautiful assistant couldn't possibly stay suspended in mid-air for that long. The magician uses a support structure for the assistant and pretends to gesture to the audience. While other assistants hold a curtain to cover the magician's lower body, the mechanism slowly rises, levitating the assistant. After the curtain is removed, the audience sees the assistant suspended in mid-air by the mechanism.

Horrifying dismemberment techniques

Each small box used in this magic trick is only 35 centimeters high, with a small space of about 20 centimeters at the bottom for an assistant whose head is sticking out to hide. When the magician first enters the box, the assistant cleverly stands on top of the bottom space using supports, making herself the same height as the box so the audience doesn't know it's not sealed. Once the trick begins, she removes the support, hiding herself in the bottom space. For boxes where other parts of the body are exposed, sometimes the assistant uses a mechanism inside to stand up to a suitable height, allowing the audience to see her abdomen or legs. If the assistant can't reach that height, such as showing her calves and thighs at the top, a mannequin is used to deceive the audience. The most crucial element of this trick is that the assistant needs extremely flexible limbs, as she must hide in the confined space and constantly change positions. The magician rotates the boxes to make the audience believe that no one is hiding inside, so each box can rotate freely—except for the bottom one, because no one would believe someone could hide in a box only 35 centimeters high.
