Flower care ‖ The secret to extending the flowering period
Although fresh cut flowers are beautiful, their life span is short. This is why most people stay away from them. Today I will teach you a few little secrets to prolong their flowering period. Although they are far inferior to potted flowers, you can enjoy them unrestrainedly for as long as possible .
Heat up first and then cool down
Put the fresh cut flowers into cold water that reaches the bottom of the flowers. Cold water can lower the temperature of the flower branches and petals, slowing down their dehydration and withering process, thus keeping the flowers fresh for a longer time. Prepare a bowl of 60℃~70℃ hot water, put the bottom of the flower stem into the hot water, be careful not to let the hot steam steam the petals, then soak for about ten to fifteen seconds, then cut the flower stem diagonally, and finally put it into a vase filled with cold water.
Flowers also need a clean environment
In addition, using clean utensils, such as clean buckets, pruning shears and water, can reduce the number of bacteria that clog the flower branches and cause rot, allowing the flower branches to absorb nutrients more smoothly and keep fresh. Of course, the water should be changed soon.
Utilize preservatives
Cut flower preservatives can also inhibit the growth of bacteria. If used in the correct proportion according to the instructions, they can effectively extend the life of flowers. In addition, aspirin can also inhibit bacteria. The dosage needs to be controlled, generally 50-800ppm (unit of measurement: kilogram per milligram), which means adding two 25-gram aspirins to one liter of water.
Use the pruning method
Before inserting the flowers into the vase, use pruning shears to diagonally cut the bottom of the branches to increase the water absorption surface and reduce the bubbles attached to it, so that the flowers can better obtain nutrients. In addition, for the bottom of the branches of natural wood flowers such as lilac and hydrangea, you can use a hammer to gently crush them, which can enhance the ability to absorb water and keep the flowers fresh.
Burn properly with fire
For flowers that exude a milky sap, such as clematis, poppies, and euphorbia, you can use a flame to burn the base of the flower branches to prevent the sap from leaking out and alleviate the wilting condition.
Deep Water First Aid
When flowers are drooping, you can cut off a small section of the end of the branch and put it in a container filled with cold water, leaving only the flower head exposed to the water. After one to two hours, the branch will wake up. This method is applicable to both herbaceous and woody flowers.
