Buying furniture for decoration is like a girl shopping in a mall. It is easy to place an order based on the style, appearance, etc., but after using it once or twice, you will find that it is not as easy to use as you imagined at the time!
The key point is that furniture is not like clothes. It is a large item. If you buy the wrong one, it will be useless at home, but it would be a pity to throw it away, which will put you in a dilemma.
We must admit that there is really no need to buy some furniture, or you should think twice before buying it. For example, don't move these 15 pieces of furniture into your home impulsively.
1. Long dining table over 1.4 meters
Long dining tables are certainly useful, as they can accommodate multiple people dining, family activities, and reasonable use of space, etc. However, if there are many people dining at home, or if you often have gatherings, don't consider a dining table that's longer than 1.4 meters.

If the dining table is longer than 1.4 meters, it will be difficult for people on both sides to pick up food. Even arranging the plates is a problem, especially when guests come to the house. It is very embarrassing to always have to pick up food from the table.
A dining table that is more than 1.8 meters long is basically equivalent to two groups of people eating together. The same dish must be divided into at least two or three portions, and the people sitting next to them cannot reach it at all.

We Chinese don't eat like foreigners. They eat separately, so a long table doesn't matter. But we are not like that. We are used to cooking a table full of dishes and eating them together, and a long dining table doesn't seem to suit us.

Therefore, if there are many people in the family, it is recommended to use a round dining table, while for small apartments, a square table is recommended.
2. Coffee table in small living room
Sofas and coffee tables used to be standard in living rooms, but today’s living rooms are completely different from before. They no longer need to be primarily used for entertaining guests and are more private, so coffee tables seem very redundant.

Especially for small apartments, the coffee table has almost no function other than taking up space, affecting children's activities, and making the living room look messy.
This is why the coffee tables in many families eventually become “abandoned furniture”!

Instead of doing this, it is better not to buy a coffee table in the first place, and use a small side table or a wheeled trolley instead.
3. Multi-person functional sofa
The reason why it is not recommended to buy it is, first, because the multi-seater functional sofa is too ugly and basically cannot be matched with any style of living room; second, because it is unnecessary and the probability of using a multi-seater functional sofa at the same time is extremely low!

The price is ridiculously high, and no one I've ever bought it from regrets it.
If there is a real need, it is recommended to choose a single-seater one, which will have little impact on the overall style of the living room and can also meet occasional comfort requirements.
4. Tatami and box bed
If your home is in the humid southern region, don't move the tatami or box bed back home. Although it can increase the storage space, moisture and mold are inevitable.

What's more, the storage space of tatami and box beds is not convenient to use, and you need to move the cover back and forth to take out and put clothes.
My personal suggestion is that if there are too many things at home and the area is not small, you can consider decluttering. Some things may not be used for several years after being stored here and there, and they just take up space.
5. Expensive mahogany furniture
There are 33 types of rosewood in 8 categories, and the new national standard has changed it to 29 types in 8 categories. Among them, only a few have collection value and require extremely high craftsmanship. Ordinary people who don’t have a deep understanding of rosewood should never buy rosewood furniture with the idea of appreciation, as they will most likely fall into a trap in the end.

Moreover, mahogany furniture is made of pure solid wood, which is prone to cracking in the later stage and requires careful daily maintenance, which is time-consuming and laborious.
The sitting feeling is really average, it's hard, not as comfortable as leather or fabric. The decoration style is more Chinese, and it's hard for ordinary families to hold it. If you are not an expert, don't move it home.
6. Cute children's bed
The cartoon style is cute and very popular among children, but I really don’t recommend you to buy it for a child’s room.

This kind of cartoon shape is mostly soft-packed, and the material inside is unclear. It all depends on the merchants' deception. They will tell you that it is made of solid wood, but it is most likely MDF. They will also use various low-quality glues, which will cause odor and excessive formaldehyde.

I suggest you buy simple solid wood items for children’s rooms, which are safe, environmentally friendly, and safe for children to use.
7. Customized sofas
Some people will choose a "custom-made sofa" to show their "personality", but I advise you not to choose this kind of sofa if it is not necessary. Sofas are different from wooden products. They must be sampled at least 5 times before they can be sold. It is difficult to guarantee the comfort and appearance of customized sofas.

Just choose the merchant’s regular models, the ones with changeable length and color. They have been polished countless times, so the chance of making mistakes is lower.
8. Don’t put a bench at the end of the bed in a small bedroom
From ancient times to the present, the stool at the end of the bed has always been a symbol of nobility. It is placed at the head of the bed to rest one's feet on and store bedtime clothes. Some people, for the sake of face, install it at the head of their own bed regardless of the size of their bedroom.

As a result, I had to stumble when walking back and forth, making the bedroom seem even more cramped.

In fact, for a small bedroom, you can make a small part of open compartments when customizing the wardrobe, so that you can throw your bedtime clothes directly in, which is convenient and does not take up extra space.
9. Extravagant Chandelier
How much you like it at first, how much you dislike it after moving in. The exaggerated design is easy to get tired of, it is difficult to clean, and the failure rate is high. If you buy it for tens of thousands, each repair and cleaning will be a considerable expense.

Moreover, if the home is well ventilated, the air will make a clanging sound when it blows. This happened to my house before. I was so scared that I didn't dare to open the windows for fear that they would be broken.

Furthermore, the ceiling height of new houses nowadays is about 2.67 meters. The chandeliers are too high. After installation, some of them can be touched by hand, which makes people feel depressed. They are not as practical as simple ceiling lamps.
10. Bedside table
That’s right, bedside tables are no longer necessary furniture.
Before buying, first consider your needs. Do you want to use it only to store simple items such as mobile phones, glasses, and tissues, or do you want to store a lot of small items? If it is the former, you don’t need a large bedside table. Just buy one with a small storage board. It looks good and looks refreshing.

Of course, if you have a lot of things, just buy an ordinary bedside table with drawers.
11. Use pure wall cabinets as bookcases
The weight of books is beyond imagination, it is really super heavy. It is not recommended to use pure wall cabinets to make bookcases. If they are not installed carefully, there is a possibility of them falling.

Secondly, it should be noted that even for floor-standing bookcases, attention should be paid to the thickness and length of the boards. It is recommended to use thickened layers of 2.5 or 3.6 cm or more, with a maximum length of no more than 0.8 meters. Support is required, otherwise, even the thickest boards will be bent.
12. Transformable dining table
There are probably two types: direct stretching and changing the long shape into a round shape. Although it seems to solve some problems, it is not recommended to buy it unless there is a high-frequency demand.

In addition to the high failure rate and hardware problems of deformed dining tables, there will be gaps after deformation, which can easily allow food residue to fall in while eating, making hygiene issues unhealthy and inconvenient.
More importantly, the appearance of transformable dining tables is generally average, and there are very few from big brands.
13. It is not recommended to buy a chaise longue sofa if the height is less than 2.6 meters
Every time we talk about chaise sofas, there are always a group of people jumping out to refute that chaise sofas are comfortable, but they are not very friendly to small living rooms and really make the space look cramped.

It is recommended here that if the length of the sofa background wall is less than 2.6 meters, do not buy a chaise longue. It is more appropriate to choose a straight sofa and a single chair. If it is longer than 2.6 meters, you can choose according to your needs.
14. Dining chairs that are too heavy
To be honest, it doesn’t matter if the dining table is a bit heavy, at least you don’t move it that often. But don’t buy dining chairs that are too heavy. Every time you eat or mop the floor, it’s like being tortured. You have to use a lot of strength to pull them out, which is not friendly to the elderly and children.

Therefore, before buying a dining chair, be sure to ask the merchant about the weight. It is best to weigh it yourself and make sure the weight is acceptable before purchasing.
15. Flip-top dressing table
It looks high-end, with a flip cover to store cosmetics, but it is actually flashy and useless. Anyway, I gave up after using it for three months.

There are many disadvantages:
First of all, although it seems that the dust is blocked when the lid is closed, in fact, dust can easily get into the gaps, and it is difficult to clean up once it gets dirty, and it wastes time to create gaps and gullies.

Secondly, there is a mirror inside the flip cover, but it is too far away after opening it. Myopia + makeup = useless, I can hardly see anything.
Furthermore, if you want it to be convenient to use, you cannot put things on the lid, otherwise you have to move a lot of things when you open the lid, which is very troublesome. But with a table there, how can you resist putting things on it? I think this design is really a bit redundant.

I advise everyone not to move this kind of flip-top dressing table into your home. Ideals are full, but reality is very skinny.
