Cultivation Steps After Sowing Flowers and Plants
After sowing flowers and plants, they need proper care to germinate. What are some things to pay attention to after sowing flowers and plants?
1. Covering with soil
Generally, some light-loving seeds do not need to be covered with soil, but most light-sensitive flowering plants need to be covered with a thin layer of soil after sowing. Covering with soil usually involves placing a layer of medium, such as potting soil, on top of the seeds after sowing. This ensures close contact between the seeds and the soil, preventing the seeds from being washed away and promoting stable seedling growth. The thickness of the soil covering the seeds should not be too thick, approximately the thickness of the seed itself.
2. Watering methods after sowing
Flowering plant seeds require ample water during germination, so it's essential to maintain appropriate humidity after sowing. Excessive dryness will reduce germination rates, but avoid waterlogging or overwatering. Generally, sprinkling is preferable to watering by misting, ideally in the morning. Covering the containers with plastic wrap can also reduce moisture loss. When sowing outdoors, it's best to move the seeds to a sheltered location during rain.
3. Provide adequate lighting
After sowing, move the seeds to a sunny location so that the seedlings can receive sunlight as soon as they germinate, which is essential for healthy growth. For seeds of flowering plants that do not like sunlight, you can cover them with black gauze or newspaper, and remove the gauze once the seeds begin to germinate.
4. Some flowering plants can be sown by broadcasting. Ensure even sowing. When sowing, mix a small amount of fine sand with the seeds to loosen them and ensure even distribution. Cover with a layer of soil, then cover the seedling tray or seedbed with plastic film or glass to retain warmth and moisture. Remove the film when excessive water droplets appear under the film, and continue this process until seedlings emerge.
