Autumn furniture maintenance tips you need to know!

The crisp, clear autumn weather sweeps away the summer's humid heat, bringing a dry and cool feeling. Just as our skin needs moisturizing, our furniture also needs its maintenance. However, the unique climate of each season presents different requirements for furniture care. Here are five points to note regarding furniture maintenance in autumn:

Although autumn isn't as hot as summer, the dryness combined with direct sunlight can cause furniture to crack. In areas with strong sunlight, thicker curtains can be used for shade.

Just as dehydrated skin needs both external application and internal nourishment, so too does dehydrated furniture. We can increase the humidity in our homes using green plants or humidifiers, which in turn affects the humidity of our furniture. However, on the other hand, we also need to use professional furniture care oils. These oils are easily absorbed by the furniture fibers, nourishing the interior of the furniture, especially wooden furniture.

Excessive moisture absorption can damage wooden furniture. Therefore, furniture should not be placed too close to the wall; maintaining a certain distance allows for adequate ventilation. For furniture that has been in a damp environment for a long time, it can be placed in a well-ventilated area to dehumidify.

Dry weather easily generates a lot of dust, which the autumn winds carry to every corner of furniture. In this case, frequent cleaning is necessary to prevent dust buildup from dulling the shine of furniture. Common autumn symptoms such as asthma and allergic rhinitis are often caused by dust mites in the home. Dust mites mainly thrive in floors, sofas, bedding, cushions, mattresses, and pillowcases, requiring regular cleaning and dusting. On sunny days, remove removable cushions and backrests and expose them to direct sunlight to remove moisture and kill mold.

When cleaning furniture, avoid scratching it. If scratches do occur, a simple method is to apply shoe polish of a similar color to the surface using a cotton ball or paintbrush. To remove water stains, place clean absorbent paper on the water stains and press them down with a heated iron. Alternatively, you can apply salad oil or toothpaste, then wipe the furniture clean and wax it.
