1meter vegetable garden, popular all over the world!
A small vegetable garden is a source of health.
Today I will recommend to you a "one-meter vegetable garden" that is both practical and beautiful.
It is easy to operate and does not take up much space, but it transforms the rural farming life from a simple style and retro colors into a fashionable international trend!
Below I will share with you the entire production process of the " 1- meter vegetable garden ".
First of all, as a designer with a solid background, I would like to thank an old man.
Inventor of Square Foot Gardening (SFG): Mel Bartholomew
Mel Bartholomew from the US is quite remarkable. This American version of the "Old Farmer" was a municipal engineer in his youth. After retirement, he took up home gardening and developed a more systematic and scientific concept called the "One-Meter Vegetable Garden" (after all, Mel has published a book!). This concept can produce enough vegetables for a family of four year-round in a very small area! (⊙ˍ⊙)
Then, in just ten years from the 1970s to the 1980s (it has been 40 years now, and I just learned about it... I'm ashamed), it became popular all over the world due to its strong operability.
This system has several advantages over traditional vegetable gardens:
The yield is greater, 5 times that of a vegetable garden of the same size
Less soil required
Easy to maintain, only takes 2% of the management time of an ordinary vegetable garden
Can be used to grow vegetables and flowers, more practical and beautiful
Briefly describe the characteristics of Yimi Vegetable Garden:
Raised planting bed with deep soil (30-40 cm)
Special growing medium (one part compost, one part peat moss, one part vermiculite)
Mulch the soil to increase water retention and weed resistance (wood chips, etc.)
Divided into grids (usually 4/9/16 grids)
The main method of picking is with a pair of scissors (to reduce the damage to the plants caused by digging roots)
How to build your own 1 meter vegetable garden
Step 1. 1 meter planting box
The planting boxes are 15-30 centimeters deep, 1-1.2 meters long and wide, and are designed so that the owner of a 1-meter vegetable garden can reach every position in the planting box without having to step into it.
Step 2. Planting Mix
Meier creates "Meier's Soil Mix" to make the soil soft, nutrient-rich, easy to work with, and able to retain enough water for plants to thrive. Meier's mix is equal parts compost, peat moss (or coconut coir), and coarse vermiculite, and it lasts about 10 years.
Step 3. Planning and Planting
Deciding what to plant in your 1-meter vegetable garden will be the most fun part of your gardening career!
Place a grid on the planting box, with each grid about 30 cm. The grid makes the 1-meter vegetable garden neater and better organizes the plants. Plant a vegetable in each grid. Depending on the size and growth habits of the plants, you can plant 1, 4, 9, or 16 plants per grid.

Step 4. Cultivation
Our specially treated Mel Super Soil allows plants to thrive without weeding—just water! When thirsty, water them readily, giving larger plants more water and smaller plants less. Spraying is best.
Step 5. Harvest
Harvest is definitely the happiest time of the year! Harvest fruits and vegetables according to the season, and be careful not to damage the plants when harvesting the fruits.
As for the children, holding the fruits and vegetables they grew with their own hands, they will probably never be picky eaters again! By raising the vegetable garden by 1 meter, grandparents can easily grow vegetables without having to bend down.
"1-meter vegetable garden" goes from the United States to the world
The "1-meter vegetable garden" has a history of nearly 40 years from its birth to today.
At the beginning, "One Meter Vegetable Garden Gardening Show" was broadcast on TV for many years and was the highest-rated gardening program in the United States to date. Grandpa Mel received thousands of letters of gratitude from gardeners across the United States.
Through the 1-Meter Garden Global Training Center, Meier also introduced the 1-Meter Garden to humanitarian organizations and leaders around the world, and promoted it to developing countries, benefiting millions of malnourished poor people.
The global outreach program, which extends from Africa to Asia and South America, has been recognized as a "huge success" by the nonprofit Human Public Interest Group.
Currently, Grandpa Mel's 1-meter vegetable garden has been adopted by more than 1 million gardeners around the world.
Start growing vegetables from the children!
The 1-meter vegetable garden is not only about utilizing gardening space and growing healthy vegetables, but also an ideal way to combine education with entertainment.

Since 2010, Mel Bartholomew has been planning to write a gardening book for children while teaching them about the 1-meter garden. Children love playing with the land and watching their plants grow and become edible vegetables. Their enthusiasm has given the 1-meter garden more vitality.
Through the 1-meter vegetable garden, parents, teachers and their children can experience the joy of planting and the beauty of life in a healthy environment that is close to nature and conducive to growth and learning.
The 1-meter vegetable garden not only benefits adults, but also allows children to learn: science, ecology, botany, mathematics, even art, design, language, logic, gardening knowledge, healthy eating habits, and even the spirit of water conservation, environmental protection, and self-sufficiency...
From planting to harvesting, it is a process full of happiness for adults and children!
